What
is AAZK?
The
American Association of
Zoo Keepers (AAZK) is a non-profit organization founded by professional
animal care staff and related persons interested in promoting zoo keeping
skills and animal care as a profession.
The local Lion Country Safari Chapter participates in several events
and fundraisers throughout the year to promote animal keeping and raise
money for various efforts benefiting animals. Some of the on-going and
annual projects that the local chapter volunteers time and effort to
coordinate include:
Cell
Phone Recycling
*$5 Discount Admission Offer*
Bring in one or more used cell phones to donate for recycling to
the front office during normal park hours and receive a $5 discount
on admission to Lion Country Safari for each person in your vehicle.
Do you have a used cell phone lying around? Do you know someone that
just bought a new cell phone and doesn't know what to do with the old
one? Please bring in any used cell phones to recycle them and help raise
money for conservation at the same time! It is easy. Lion Country Safari's
chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers is now recycling
used cell phones to prevent hazardous electronic waste from entering
our landfills and to raise funds for various conservation projects.
Cell phone accessories including batteries and chargers are also welcome.
Admission is not necessary to drop off donations, which can be brought
to the main office any day during regular park hours (9:30am - 5:30pm).
Spread the word by asking family and friends if they have cell phones
that could be recycled too!

Bowling
for Rhinos
Every
year Lion Country Safari's chapter of AAZK participates in the Bowling
for Rhinos event which raises funds to benefit rhinoceros conservation
in both Africa and Asia. Bowlers collect sponsorship money to attend the
event usually held in the summer months. One hundred percent of all donations
go directly to saving four species of rhinoceros in three different rhino
conservation organizations in Kenya, Java, and Sumatra. These efforts
not only support rhinoceros species but they also protect unique ecosystems,
enabling the conservation of hundreds of endangered plants and animals.
If you are interested in supporting the Lion Country Safari chapter's

Cheetah Chili Cook-Off
An
annual tradition for several years, the Cheetah Chili Cook-Off is a cooking
competition representing many styles of chili while raising funds for
cheetah conservation. Awards are granted during the competition to the
tastiest recipes. All money raised is donated to the Cheetah Conservation
Fund to benefit research and education about cheetahs and their ecosystems.

Ink
Cartridge Recycling
In partnership with Empties4Cash, Lion Country
Safari's AAZK Chapter recycles ink cartridges and ink toners from printers
on property. The recycling program saves needless waste from entering
landfills by remanufacturing ink cartridges into fresh compatible ones.
In addition, as more used ink cartridges are recycled and remanufactured
less energy is spent creating new cartridges.
